The Eve of User Based Content is Upon Us . . . Or is it?
Today, Microsoft released the much-awaited Vista operating system. The new computer platform is slated to make general computing better, but more importantly, it takes the integration of media and computing to the next level. The operating system will easily allow users to capture and view content that is relevant to them. Additionally, the new software can be displayed through users Televisions, even in HD. So were there masses foaming at the mouth to get their hands on the new Vista operating system. Were there stampedes when electronic stores opened this morning, similar to the release of PlayStation 3 . . . Not at all. While retailers were anticipating mass hysteria there was only a trickle of early adopters. Is this due to users not wishing to subscribe to the future of user controlled content or do they not want to upgrade existing hardware. My guess is the latter. There is no denying that the user based content movement is going to change the way we consume information, just not today.
