Thoughts on the last SEMPO AZ meeting
The topic for the latest SEMPOAZ meeting was really interesting. Learning how companies around the Valley have been using social media and what kind of results were generated has always been super interesting to me. As Eric pointed out earlier, a lot of the topics covered were for social media novices, but I think Sheila Kloefkorn was able to give us the best real life applications and explain the results she saw for a variety of clients.
I was also impressed by Google's Frederick Vallaeys honesty about upcoming features and the status of Google. Yahoo presented at a SEMPOAZ meeting a couple months ago, and while the information was interesting and I got some good ideas for, there were a lot of "I can't answer that" from the presenter, which was not the case the other night. Frederick did gear his presentation more to the developers than search engine marketer's, but I still learned a lot.
Also presenting the other night was Jobing.com's Don Mock Jr, on the topic of blogging. The presentation did seem like a sales pitch, but it also re-enforced the fact that blogging is not as hard as people think. And people who think blogging is hard, are thinking too much! One Jobing.com client simply blogged about a day in his life, and was able to garner a lot of attention for it.
SEMPOAZ continues to bring a variety of topics to the table and great presenters. Of the various industry meetings I try to attend, this meeting by far provides the greatest value.
