Media Spends Slow - Online Videos Grow
In a recent AdAge article the top 100 media companies saw only a 4.6 percent revenue boost from last year, the slowest growth since 2001. These diminished increases in revenue are due to the current state of the economy, raising prices of traditional ad-space and an increased use of digital advertising. Online advertising, whether it be viral videos, banner ads, email blasts or catchy landing pages, can all be implemented quickly, easily, cheaply, are trackable and best of all for the most part very inexpensively if not nearly free. Car dealerships have caught onto this trend with an estimated 25 percent of dealers now creating online videos according to the AdAge article. These videos can be seen places such as their personal web sites, YouTube.com and local news and auto sales sites, providing targeted access to potential customers. These videos that range from funny spoofs of car dealers to simple vehicle walk-around footage cost roughly $80 to produce and are getting results. Larry Pryg, national marketing and ad manager for General Motors used-auto business, has stated that cars with online videos produce twice as many telephone and email inquires. With the economy forcing organizations of all levels to scrutinize how marketing dollars are spent to ensure the maximum ROI is achieved many will likely look to increase their online marketing tactics in the future.
