Why I Love Celebrities Who Tweet

It’s no secret I am a fan of pop culture. I totally rule at pop culture Trivial Pursuit. I watch far too much TV and read way too many gossip rags. Add to that my daily monitoring of People.com, TMZ.com, etc. and you get the drift. Yes, I keep in touch with reality. I follow politics and know what’s going on around the world. But let’s be real, it’s not nearly as fascinating as Britney’s latest meltdown! So for now and into the foreseeable future celebrities will be my passion. But here’s the thing, celebrities are unapproachable. They have handlers (read: Publicists) who craft their messaging and dictate what they can say. Who hasn’t wanted to feel like they are getting a glimpse into the inner thoughts of their fave celeb? Well for me that has begun to happen, at least I think. More and more celebrities are apparently hitting the micro-blogosphere known as Twitter and can I just say, hell yeah! How rad that I get to see what @THE_REAL_SHAQ has to say! It is always insightful if not perplexing. Of course I also follow @britneyspears who admittedly doesn’t always tweet herself, but does a good job of letting you know who is tweeting on her behalf, good effort Brit. Most recently, I have added @MCHammer to my celebrity tweet following. If that isn’t 2 Legit, I just don’t know what is. Added props to him for following me back. I can only hope that more celebrities jump on this bandwagon and let their fans get up close and personal, Twitter-style. I also, hope they keep it real and tweet for themselves. All of this celebrity twittering got me thinking. Seems like there might be an interesting parallel between what I want from my celebrity tweeters and what consumers what from brand/marketer tweeters. Give us some insights into your world. Make us feel a part of it. Be approachable. And most importantly, keep it real.
