Organizations to Host Second Annual Toy Drive to Benefit Pediatric HIV/AIDS Clinic
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (December 5, 2007) Scottsdale-based FireSky Resort & Spa, a member of Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants group, and its public relations partner, Off Madison Ave, a full service communications firm located in Tempe, Ariz., are joining forces to host the second annual Holiday Toy Drive to help make the holidays a little brighter for children treated at the Bill Holt Pediatric Infectious Disease Clinic at Phoenix Children's Hospital. The resort hosts this event during the holiday season as part of parent company Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants' Red Ribbon Campaign that benefits 14 HIV/AIDS service agencies across North America. This year, FireSky Resort & Spa and Off Madison Ave will collect toys and donations from employees and hand deliver them to the Clinic on Dec. 14.
"Phoenix Children's Hospital's Bill Holt Clinic provides world-class, family-centered care to hundreds of families coping with HIV/AIDS, a disease we at Kimpton are passionate about fighting," said Jim Hollister, general manager, FireSky Resort & Spa. "We are honored to have the opportunity to work with the Clinic's dedicated staff and make a small difference in the lives of deserving families for the second year."
The Toy Drive commenced Nov. 20 during a luncheon at FireSky Resort & Spa for its employees and Off Madison Ave. Clinic staff spoke about the treatment center and needs of the Clinic's families, and introduced one family utilizing its services. A mother and her 6-year-old son, both living with AIDS, shared their personal story.
Staff at FireSky Resort & Spa and Off Madison Ave will collect donations and a variety of gifts for children ages birth to 22, who are receiving treatment at the Clinic. FireSky Resort & Spa and Off Madison Ave also each will make financial contributions to the Clinic. On the morning of Dec. 14, more than 50 employees will meet at FireSky Resort & Spa and load gifts onto two large buses, gather aboard and drive toys to Phoenix Children's Hospital. Upon arrival, staff will hand deliver the toys to patients as well as a "big check" from FireSky Resort & Spa and Off Madison Ave to the Clinic. Additionally, a FireSky Resort & Spa pastry chef dressed as Frosty the Snowman will distribute sugar-free holiday cookies to children at the hospital.
"As the only comprehensive pediatric HIV/AIDS clinic in the state of Arizona, we depend on the support of our community," said Amy Emonds, Clinical Social Worker, Bill Holt/HIV Clinic, Phoenix Children's Hospital. "We commend FireSky Resort & Spa, Kimpton and Off Madison Ave for focusing their energies on this often overlooked disease and aiding our Clinic and its families in need."
For more than 20 years, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants has assisted HIV service organizations across North America through employee volunteerism, HIV educational campaigns, corporate donations and raising funds through special events. In 2006, its Red Ribbon Campaign raised over $57,000 for local HIV charities.
The Bill Holt Clinic at Phoenix Children's Hospital provides comprehensive care for children and adolescents exposed to or infected with HIV. The Clinic, founded in 1994, is a multidisciplinary program providing family-centered care with a team of specialists who work together to provide specialized medical care, testing, nutritional support, child life services and psychosocial support. In addition to care, the Clinic offers support groups with fun activities and education for children and teens, and encourages parents to attend in a separate group to share concerns and experiences.
The clinic has been involved in research as a former PACTG sub-site with the University of San Diego, with clinical trials along with Body Positive as well as other projects. Members of the clinic work closely to collaborate and advocate with community agencies to access and enhance services for families.
